Finn Blaxland

The Week In Finn (Mar 11, 2006)

FIRST: Finn's first (dry run) attempt at a big boy car seat. He'll have to start using this when he gains a few more pounds. He will also use it on the upcoming flight to Australia and when touring the homeland. As the first Blaxland of his generation, he'll probably have to meet with the Prime Minister and other dignataries upon his return to Sydney. So it's important to have a good seat for the extra comfort of lengthly diplomatic events. For those of you who don't know, his great great great great great grandfather was a famous Australian explorer. Finn will be visiting the town of Blaxland during his trip.

FIRST: Finn's first (wet run) attempt at drinking water and holding the bottle him self. Note the training wheel style handles.

Finn continues to get nebulizer treatments...and boy does he love that. We are hoping the spring air eases his breathing troubles.

Kim and Chris introduce Finn to one of Tom and Sam's old toys. State of the art Fisher Price in its day, on the current danger scale of toys, it's considered the equivalent of a code orange terrorist threat. Nice rustly antlers too!

FIRST: Finn's first attempt at eating with a spoon and eating anything other than formula. Here he's trying rice cereal.

Mmmmmmm. Rice cereal

Finn looks appropriately scared and enthralled with Julia. Emily and Jeffrey (10) stand by. Note Julia's pink bejewelled boots. Those are Tom's fault.

Finn applies Blaxland scientific observation techniques as he watches the local natives perform a celebration ritual. His notes read in part "The specimen known as Jeffrey spends his 3653rd day since birth blowing symbolic fire sticks, while the subject known as Julia counts the dollar value of his haul with her fingers."

FIRST: Finn's first attempt at reading a book. By the look on his face, it's a riveting yarn involving Octy the Octopus and an unusual amount of h2o.

Guppie as Bag Lady. There is some concern that cat hair may be the cause of Finn's breathing troubles. Such news does not bode well for our orange feline. Anyone looking for an indoor cat who likes ice-cream? Julia?

FIRST: Finn's first successful attempt at wearing shoes "indoors". There were some unsuccessful attempts previously involving tiny cowboy boots. Cowbow boots are difficult to jump in (insert Brokeback joke here...).

FIRST: Finn's first walk in the park while awake. We have actually taken him to this public walking track on an old farm and historic landmark (Battle of the Brandywine) but he has never been awake before. The is also the first time he has sat in the Zippy stroller like a big boy (forward). Previously he was in his car seat which sat on top of the Zippy. Also note the lack of snow or warm clothing. Spring is Sprunging with temps in the low 70s.

FIRST: Finn's first successful attempt at wearing shoes "outdoors". Very successful. He went on to wear them at Target, Trader Joes and the Panero Grill where he likes to make friends in front of the fire place. Looking closely at the soles, you may see cows and moons interacting.

Finn smiles during a day with the grand parents.

Finn and Chris share a joke. That WAS a good one.

Finn, Chris and Flowers....a still life.

Finn: "What the hell is that?"

Jay poses as a New Orleans Incredible. A fancier outfit has not yet been invented.

FIRST: Finn's first attempt at solo piano (not good).

FIRST: Finn's first attempt at a piano duet (better).

FIRST: Finn's first attempt at playing piano with his ass (best).

Sometimes...you just can't jump anymore (rare). We'll pick this up again in the morning.

Photography Notes

This was a period of firsts for Finn. At five months he's now trying spoons, cereal, water bottles with handles, shoes, the piano and more!
